Although the zoos (and much else) were closed on Thursday, our favorite breakfast place was open. We walked at a conservation district, ate a great brunch, then headed to another conservation district to walk and geocache. Later we enjoyed conversation, games, and leftovers. (As in the past, we had cooked the big meal on Wednesday in anticipation of, you know, spending the holiday at the zoo.)
How dare they be able to celebrate after years of having to give up their holidays.

My mother said something similar, but because the animals require care every day, the zoo is in most sense already “open.” That was the draw. The Lincoln Park Zoo remains open to the public on those days.

Rationalizing a selfish demand isn’t something I want to be around. I’m sorry I expected better from someone so intellectually intelligent. My mistake. Happy travels.
