Today we located the twelfth of fifteen finds on the geocaching passport we hope to fill before summer’s end.
We also signed up for the summer reading program at the local library. Although we were advised that movies and library programs could also be used to satisfy the requirements ( !!?? ), we agreed among ourselves to stick with books. The summer selection for our family book club is Seamus Heaney’s translation of Beowulf.
Nerdishly 
I read not to long ago that teachers in New Zealand are required to accept essays written in “text speak” now and are not allowed to penalize the students for failing to use correct English. That seems a bit like allowing movies to be substituted for books in a reading program.
Seamus Heaney’s translation is excellent. If you can find it, I recognize reading it along with the audio version, which Heaney reads himself. His Irish accent really adds something.

“recommend” not “recognize” I read that comment three times before posting and I still missed that. *facepalm*

We had planned to read the Heaney, but the unabridged audiobook is narrated by George Guidal. I downloaded Heaney reading his translation, too, but it’s half as long. I wonder what has been abridged.
