On one of our walks over the weekend, we saw several Eastern bluebirds, as well as many sandhill cranes and robins. We also logged two geocaches.

The traffic gods were kind yesterday: We returned from Chicago — where we saw Antigone at the Court Theatre — in time to walk a bit before it grew too dark. The view above was our reward for sticking to our movement plan.

Following a string of gray days, the sun is winking in and out of view, so it’s time to walk. Today’s other projects include my reading and notes for tomorrow’s meeting on The Magic Mountain, a “You took how many days off?!?” music practice, reading for this, and my current Latin unit.

Yesterday’s walk reminded me to be grateful we live in a county with conservation areas through which one can walk and hear only the sounds of prairie grass rustling, trees swaying, small mammals darting, and birds calling. The steady drone of midday traffic certainly dampens the healing effects of an afternoon in the woods.
